Our day at Riquewihr

Another day in France.Today we were accompanied by Matthew the Shuman's middle son. We headed out the next morning crossing the Rhine and making our way north into the vineyards of Riquewihr. The town was nestled amongst the vines as far as the eye could see. We again found ourselves strolling the shops and cafes (recurring theme) buying some wine and lunch items for later. After some Kaffee, we drove a little farther north and ascended a long upward winding road to a mountain top castle looking out over the region. We toured the castle found some fantastic views and some great images along with learning some history. On the way home we stopped and picnicked with our earlier purchases in the vineyards. There is nothing more European that that. We hurried home late that afternoon as team Germany was playing tonight in the FIFA World Cup. Supporting our host country we all displayed the German flag on our cheeks. We dined on a local favorite the Doner, a Turkish delight with fries. During the game Donna and I prepared and wrote our wedding thank you post cards that Donna and Heather had collaborated on before the wedding.
