A day at Freiburg and Schauinsland

Today we ventured out alone. Heather brought us to the train station and we were off. We headed north to Freiburg. Toured the central cathedral which just happened to be surrounded by the local farmers / flea market. We sampled many of the offerings and purchased some gifts. we strolled the downtown finding some interesting sights, a McDonalds in a Castle and Donna spied a display of film, go figure. Of course we stopped for a quick beer before heading off into the hills to find the gondola ride up to a mountain top scenic area. After  riding the trolley out of town and taking a bus for the next leg we arrives at Schauinsland. We took the hour long ride to the top for the most fantastic views anywhere. I half expected the VonTrapps to appear and start singing...... We hiked along the ridge to a fire tower that I climbed, someone else decided she was high enough on the mountain. Making our way back to town we descended the hour long gondola ride, the bus and the trolley to arrive just in time as the local brew house was just opening. Another quick beer or four later we hopped the train back to Kandern.
